2 Things You Can Do To Get Rid Of Ants

Posted on

The thing with pests like ants is that they can come into your house no matter how clean it is. It doesn't mean that your house is dirty; it just means that the ants have found some nutrition in your home. It could be as simple as a drip of water from a pipe or some crumbs that didn't get swept up. If you have ants, you want to get rid of them as quickly as possible. Calling a pest control service can get rid of the ants for you is the best way to do it. But there are also things you can do on your own to help deal with the ant problem.

Vinegar and Water

Ants spread a pheromone trail from their nest to food sources. That trail lets other ants follow the scout ant to where the food is so they can return it to their nest. If those trails don't exist, the ants can't find that food. One way to handle that is to make a 50/50 vinegar and water mixture. Put it in a spray bottle, and any time you see an ant, spray the ant and wipe it up. That will kill the pheromone trail and make it harder for ants to find food.

Seal Your Food

Another way to deal with ants is to ensure they cannot get to your food. You should seal your food in plastic, glass, or metal storage containers. This is especially true for things like sugar because ants like sugar. Any food that generates crumbs should go into a container, so things like cereal, oatmeal, and rice would all be good in containers. As an added benefit, this will also help keep your food fresher. While sealing up your food, make sure that you don't have any leaks in your faucets. It doesn't have to be a big leak for aunts to be attracted to it. Check your faucets to make sure they're not dripping, and look around the knobs to make sure there's no water there. Check the pipes under your cabinets as well.

No one likes to have ants in their house. The best way to deal with it is to have a pest control service tech come out to your house and treat your home for you. But there are things that you can do while you're waiting for that to happen to help get rid of all the ants in your house.
