How Do Bed Bugs Get Into Your Home?

Posted on

Bed bugs are not some pest that just suddenly appears, they come in from various ways, usually traveling from elsewhere back home with you, or they could have hitched a ride into your home. Pests such as bed bugs can easily turn into an infestation if your home is not treated properly to exterminate them. Doing so properly takes some research into this pest to ensure you have gotten rid of them thoroughly. Hiring a pest control company is something you should do to be sure this is done properly. Read on for more information about these pests.

How Do They Get In?

Again, these pests don't just suddenly appear, although they may feel that way. They can make their way in on your clothing, luggage, your purse, your shoes, or even on you after you've traveled. They can come into your home on new furniture you just purchased, or on used furniture you brought into your home. They could travel to your home from another neighboring home, or from another apartment close by. They are very small and can go unnoticed, which is how they can get out of hand so easily and undetected.

What Can You Do About Them?

Once you've discovered that you have these pests in your home, you need to start exterminating them right away. If you've found them in your bedroom, you need to remove your bed sheets and blankets, wash them in hot water, and dry them in a high heat setting. You need to place your mattress into a mattress bag to protect the mattress and box spring (if you have one) from being able to get into your bed again. Mattress bags can be found at most big box stores, or at a mattress store. You need to vacuum all of the floors in your home and wipe down the hard surfaces. You should also spray a pesticide along the baseboards of your room, or if you've found these pests in multiple rooms, you may want to use a bug bomb.

If you have found bed bugs, they didn't just suddenly appear. They traveled with you from your own travels or traveled to you via your new furniture or even on new clothing. If you have found a lot of these pests, you should hire a pest control expert to help you get rid of them. These are tricky pests, and an expert will be thorough in their exterminating process.
